Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day

Founded in the early 1990’s by renowned holiday creators Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays, this holiday gets the Cobras slithering south. As everyone knows, Cobras hate fudge, and the mere mention of the word gets snakes to gag and slither away. On this day, people from North America go outside, point themselves south, and yell “fudge” at noon local time. Could it be that this ritual keeps Cobras from living in North America? Sure, there are Eastern coral snakes in North America, which are also known as American Cobras, but these are not real Cobras!

Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day has always been observed annually on June 2nd.

If you are in North America on June 2, go outside when it is noon, face south, and yell “fudge!” You will be doing your part to make sure Cobras do not advance and take over North America. Any Cobras that have already made it to North America will turn around and go home. Another way to keep the Cobras away is to make and eat fudge on the day. If they smell the fudge they are sure to turn back quickly.

Midsummer (Midsumarblot)

Celebration of the Summer Solstice, when the power of the Sun is at its height. It was at this time that most foreign trade was conducted, as well as shipping, fishing expeditions, and raiding. Thus, Midsummer was the festival of power and activity. It was not without its dark side as well. Midsummer was recognized as the longest day of the year; thus, the year began to age after this time and the days grow progressively shorter. The god Baldur is said to have been sacrificed at this time, but is reborn at Jul; the hero Sigurd was also said to have been slain by treachery at Midsummer by his blood-brothers Hagan and Gunthur (Gundahar).

The Summer Sol-stice, is of course a time to celebrate Sunna, and often her brother Mani as well. It is also the time of the union of Frey and Freya who combine their energies to make the flowers turn to fruit. Heimdall and his rainbow bridge can be honored at high summer, as can Aegir, Ran, and the Nine Sisters – all ocean deities. Logi may be honored as patron of the Midsummer bonfires as well. Baldur is sometimes honored on Midsummer as a sacrificed god of Light, and sometimes in November when things are withering and dying.
Midsummeris the religious celebration held at the summer solstice. This feast usually falls around June 20-21. Midsummer-related holidays, traditions and celebrations are found in all the Germanic countries of Northern Europe. Midsummer’s eve is considered the second greatest festival of the Germanic holy year, comparable only to the 12 days of Yule.

The Summer Solstice is an astronomical term regarding the position of the Sun in relation to the celestial equator. The Summer Solstice is the date with the longest day and hence with the shortest night. This date usually falls near June 21. At the time of this solstice, the Earth is in that point of its orbit at which the hemisphere in question is most tilted towards the sun, causing the sun to appear at its farthest above the celestial equator when viewed from earth.
